Robotic Thyroid surgery is an effective, minimally invasive alternative to open surgery. Through the use of the da Vinci® Surgical System, surgeons are now able to offer this minimally invasive option for thyroid disorders.

Benefits of the da Vinci® Surgical System for thyroid nodules and disorders are less pain, shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities, and less to unnoticeable scars.

The da Vinci system is changing the experience of surgery. Valley Hospital, in conjunction with our head and neck surgeon, Dr. Orrin Davis, are the first Center in the western part of Bergen County to offer this revolutionary treatment option to our patients.

Patients who undergo thyroid surgery typically spend one night in the hospital after surgery. In some cases, they may go home the same day with the drains that are placed at the end of the procedure.

Patients who undergo robotic thyroid surgery are encouraged to work on the range-of-motion of their upper arm and shoulder after surgery. This can be accomplished by slowly raising your arm above your head and moving your upper arm through its normal range. This should be done several times a day, starting the day after surgery. Patients do complain of soreness over the upper chest for several weeks after surgery. Working on the range-of-motion will reduce soreness and help with a quicker recovery.
